About the course

ABA Category 1A,1B, 3A, 3B

Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), or cherry picker course is available for the following machines: vehicle mounted, scissor, telescopic and articulated.

Choosing the right course:

  • Static Vertical – Driven into position and cannot drive elevated (ABA Category 1A)
  • Static Boom – Trailer mount, van mount, lorry mount and spider lift, cannot drive elevated (ABA category 1B)
  • Mobile Vertical – Can drive elevated (ABA category 3A)
  • Mobile Boom - Can drive elevated (ABA category 3B)

Course duration:

Refresher Training | Half - 1 Day Course

For candidates who already possess a valid qualification, which is due to expire.

Conversion Training | 1 Day Course

For qualified operators confronted with the small change in equipment or conversion to a completely different machine type.

Experienced Training | 1 Day Course

For candidates with extensive experience operating equipment but do not currently hold a valid qualification.

Novice Training | 1 Days Course

For candidates without any prior experience operating equipment.

  • Structural parts & Major components
  • Familiarisation
  • Pre-use inspections
  • Safe operating methods & hazards
  • Introduction to the actual machine(s)
  • Starting and stopping the machine
  • Planning & travelling the route, and manoeuvring the machine (where applicable)
  • Setting the machine for work
  • Typical work applications
  • Parking & securing the machine
